-Overrepresented among both male and female small business owners compared with national sample.
-One of two most overrepresented female types in a substance abuse program.
-More frequent among African Americans.
-Among the four highest in college GPA.

ISTJ - Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging - Ransdell Associates (http://www.ransdellassociates.com/ISTJ.htm)

These things kind of surprised me when I read them.

I don't see where you're going with this. Something like this? :

-Owning/operating a small business is cool.
-Admitting you have a drug problem, and trying to fix it, is cool. (Or that doing drugs in the first place is cool.)
-African Americans are cool.
-Having a high college GPA is cool.

You make an interesting collection of points. I didn't go to the link, though. That might have explained it. :D

I know a ISTJ in real life. He is pretty cool.

My ISTJ friend is excelent for conspiring with for halloween tricks. Making a group of young drunks panic in a barely lit park is priceless. :D

GPA is a much better measure of your ability to follow instructions than your ability to think. So it makes sense that ISTJs would excel in that respect.

My wife is ISTJ, and when she's unhappy she embodies the worst aspects of ISTJdom ever!

She can still surprise me though. There's a lot going on that you won't be aware of.

(Something that was mentioned on another thread and is relevant here: )
I'll just add, in passing, that personalities are complex things, obviously, so it's always hard to explain someone's personality as a whole. You can't really see the whole thing until you experience it firsthand. I guess...

All the ISTJs I know are cool people.
They can be a tad close-minded but they are fun people to talk to and play games with- especially on topics they are knowledgeable about.

ISTJs aren't really "James Caan" cool, ever. They can be cool in that ISTJ way. Like "Oh, no, he's cool, don't worry."

So you're saying you agree that Leia is ISTJ.

I know a few cool ISTJ's. It's the only kind of SJ that I usually like.
I think ISTJ's are about as cool as INTJ's. That says a lot. Really love their practical view on things.

I think we're overrepresented among those with chronic pain and those with drug issues because we're emotional retards.

They're all listed here (http://www.discoveryourpersonality.com/abouttypes.html). I think that the ESTP stats are quite interesting as well.

ISTJs are an interesting group to study. not that i think they'll match very well with my own type, but they are complexed creatures. i think the ISTJ is interesting in that they stand firm in what they believe in (social expectations etc.) and at the same time, earn to cut loose. an ISTJ at work and an ISTJ at a work party are 2 different people. i'll go as far to say that when an ISTJ goes nuts, they are very ENFP. i like the dynamics that an ISTJ chooses to juggle.

Why wouldn't ISTJs be cool, doesn't that depend more on the person then his or her type? I'm pretty sure they're cool and lame ISTJs.

Hmm

I have been told that at partys I go very much ENFP whenever I've had an adequate number of beers. I become talkative, emotional and have to hug everyone while playing the drunken name game. Also I spit out insults to the unprepared and insecure. :nice:

Good times...

Not to mention, but brother, whenever you get pissed, you express yourself in a over-the-top ENFP balls to the wall, lets raise fire hell and brimstone kind of way.

And don't go taking that like a compliment or anything

Not sure why anyone would have had the impression that ISTJs were ever anything less than really fucking cool...

One of my friends (that I talk with regularly) is an ISTJ. He's a cool dude. In work-mode I respect his focus and principles on the job; and when he's chilling...he's very humorous, down to earth and what not. Decent :)

Dear ISTJs,

Stop stressing out so don't you put our type into the 'overrepresented for chronic pain' and 'high risk for heart attack' categories.

Chill out already! Breathe! You know you're cool.

Love,
dnivera

PS. Well, in retrospect, I guess bank officers and financial managers are having a hard time now. All the more reason to take an extra chill pill dudes!

Probably true. I don't generally make myself easy to get to know. Strangers may stay strangers...

Not sure why anyone would have had the impression that ISTJs were ever anything less than really fucking cool...:cheers:Much was based on the stereotypes and prejudices of the average person considering themselves intuitives. For years, and even still today but not as much, it wasn't cool to be anything but intuitive on the forums. It has taken a long time, but people are begining to realize the rareness in type and one being better than the other are mere myths.

I don't know about the statement that they are hard to get to know. If Alicia is talking about their deeper thoughts and feelings I can see that, for sure. Sometimes I'm uncertain whether they are there at all. His feelings range seems pretty basic to me.

But as far as what they value, it is firmly stamped upon each unwasted act of the day! That's the way I "read" my spouse.

And when it comes to feelings I genuinely believe that he is puzzled by what he is feeling and what to do about it. He has several "tells" that have proven accurate over time. He actually scratches his head, cartoon-like when he feels stymied. There's that jaw-twitch thing. And when it comes to fight or flight he rapidly finds something in his environment which needs "fixing" and sets himself to it pronto. Eye contact goes out the window when the first flicker of anger begins to dawn, with the eye contact gradually increasing in intensity as the anger builds, until it becomes a hostile stare accompanied with, "No. I don't feel angry."

Time for Anja to take a walk.

I just had a thought: In today's society it is often considered to be uncool to be steadfast and dilligent in pursuing what one believes. Could this be a piece of the idea that ISTJs are uncool?

Not that important, anyway.Actually prior to the forums being developed, we chatted on yahoo groups a decade ago. There was a group for every type and then some. In fact I think that some people still prefer yahoo groups to the forums. They (http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=mbti) still seem to be active.

hmm, i dont know if this has been posted before or not, but ISTJ's are great people, it takes a looong while for them to open up and show their good side to the people they love, but once they do, oh well its just awesome
i posted this as a compliment to my very good ISTJ friend, i know he may not ever read this, but im pretty confident that other ISTJ's will apreciate it :D

Wow thanks for making me laugh!!
I have been seeing an ISTJ man for about six months now and these
are all so true in my experience.
Really, it was amazing to read this.

Mine sure "was."

Mondo mentions that ISTJs are fun to play games with. When I was reading about the ISTJ/INFP coupleship I read that playing is the best way for these two personality types to connect. And that has proven true in our relationship. When we vacation together we always have a blast.

He takes care of the details and I find all the fun places to go. Works well.

I feel the same way!! ^_^b I don't have much trouble getting along with ISTJs at all! Understanding them goes over my head sometimes but I'm always in the clouds anyways so sometimes I miss the guys on the ground there.

Also, games = rockin' for the ISTJs. I recently felt MUCH closer to my very own (I claim you Dew as my own!! You're the only one I've got!!) when starting to play DnD with him as the DM. Also, movies are another good thing that require little emotion and are mutually entertaining. ^_^b
