View Full Version : 2008 NFL Season

So far so good. The Titans are 4-0, with the best point differential in the NFL, and Tom Brady is out for the season. I couldn't have imagined at better start.
I still think the Patriots will win that division, simply because the other three teams aren't very good. Buffalo might be 4-0, but they've had trouble with the Raiders and Rams the last two weeks.
The Chargers are looking good, despite being screwed over by the refs a couple weeks ago. The Broncos have NO defense...giving up 33 pts to the Chiefs? That's embarrassing.
Edit: Somehow I managed to forget a word when I typed the title, it should read "2008 NFL Season". Blah.

I'll never forgive you. ;)
Ike or no Ike, my Texans were bound for a rough start. We'll see if they can recover and make any push for the playoffs.
I did a little bit better on my picks this week, I got the Chiefs and Redskins picks right, for instance.

Sucker. VY is a bust, plain and simple. I have no idea how a quarterback that throws more interceptions than touchdowns wins Rookie Of The Year.
The NFL season is imploding before my eyes. I watched the entire game tonight, and I have absolutely no idea how my Eagles managed to blow that game against the Bears. Oh, right, I remember now...passing up two fourth-and-short opportunities to attempt field goals that had zero chance. And not challenging the fourth down no-TD call at the end of the game. They should have wrapped the game in a bow.
Let's go Raiders! How about that blocked field goal against the Chargers yesterday?... Good shit! :nice:

They must have played a couple games I don't know about since their record is 1-3 and their only win was two weeks ago, against the Chiefs.
My fault, you're right. I could have sworn they took the game before last as well but sadly they didn't. I didn't see the whole thing.
Edit: Christ, they didn't wind up winning yesterday's game either??? They were spanking the Chargers when I left... I guess I assume too quick.

That loss is 10% David Akers, and 90% Andy Reid. I was never a Reid hater, but I can't stand that his non-adjustments have cost us two games out of four thus far. It's almost like he can't believe his team may be behind in the 4th quarter, and he goes into a shell. It really sickens me. That being said. . .

Woo hoo, another Eagles fan! I think that makes exactly three of us here. It sure didn't look good for a while, but the defense took over. 23-0 in the fourth quarter is how you close it out. Nice effort without Westbrook and both starting receivers. Dallas and Washington both losing today really helped the Eagles a lot. Now we get the bye week and hopefully everyone will heal up.

Hooray AwesomeCakes! That was a crucial game yesterday. It pisses me off that the Eagles could easily be 5-1 right now, but are not. Oh well. Hopefully, they are sufficiently scared. They have a couple of easier games after the bye, then it gets very, very hard. They need some division wins like whoa.

True. And thankfully, Dallas doesn't appear nearly as imposing as they seemed at the beginning of the season. Especially with Romo, Jones and McBriar injured, Pac about to be suspended, and TO click-click-clicking at the top of the roller coaster.
In fact, as I write this, the Giants are losing to Cleveland, 17-7 and all is right with the world. :)

Does Brady play defense, too?
NO but Brady keeps the chains moving and keeps the other offense off the field. Also with Brady we can match up with any offense when it comes to a shoot out. Would we have won? May be not but it would not have looked quite as bad. Cassel holds on to the ball waaaaay too long to the point that the LBs were blitzing, getting preassure and ratteling Cassel and leaving WRs wide open on the field. Brady would have killed them for blizing like that. Last year Brady scored most of his TDs when the defense was blitzing him.

Wow. I can think of about 20 off the top of my head that are worse. Of course, I've been watching football for a long time. I think Cassel is probably slightly below average, but he looks worse because he's replacing Superman.

That makes it seem less ludicrous, but I happen to believe in my heart of hearts that the Eagles wouldn't have given them a 3rd rounder even if that's all it would take. That is how the organization is. Lorenzo Booker for a 4th, but no Tony Gonzalez for a 2nd or a 3rd. Honestly.

He's worth a 3rd round pick for sure.
He may only have 3 more years left (probably more he takes such good care of himself) but so many 3rd rounders never amount to anything.
The Third Rider
10-16-2008, 05:51 PM
There were several teams interested in Tony G. 3 teams offered a third round pick for him but Peterson would not trade him for anything less than a 2nd rounder. Heck even the Packers had an extension ready for him to sign but last minute in the trade deadline Peterson told the Packers that he no longer wanted their 3rd round pick which they had agreed to, instead he wanted their second in a last ditch effort to get higher value. At his age Tony G. is NOT worth a 2nd rounder:
ProFootballTalk.com - PACKERS THOUGHT THEY HAD A DEAL FOR GONZALEZ (http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/10/15/packers-thought-they-had-a-deal-for-gonzalez/)
Wow.
Not only were the Packers serious players for Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, but the Pack also thought they had a deal.
According to Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal, the Packers drew up the paperwork that would have sent a third-round pick to Kansas City for Gonzalez, only to have the Chiefs back out ten minutes before the 4:00 p.m. EDT trading deadline, and demand a second-round pick.
Bills:
What’s a few draft picks for Gonzalez? : Bob Dicesare : The Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns/bobdicesare/story/463948.html)
Two NFL sources say the Bills offered a third-round draft pick for Gonzalez. Sources also say that Peterson refused to budge off his asking price, reported to be a No. 2 and a No. 5. If he was going to part with the face of the franchise it would be for what he considered commensurate return.
Eagles:
Eagles release Hunt, sign Tracy White | Philadelphia Inquirer | 10/15/2008 (http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/20081015_Eagles_release_Hunt__sign_Tracy_White.htm l)
A league source said the Eagles' interest in tight end Tony Gonzalez soured when they found out the Kansas City Chiefs wanted more than a third-round draft pick, as reported by NFL.com. Gonzalez remained with Kansas City.

Marvin Harrison is hurt/done.
Peyton Manning is hurt.
Jeff Saturday is hurt.
Joseph Addai is hurt/maybe not as good as it looked like he was.
Bob Sanders is hurt (big surprise.)
Dwight Freeney has declined significantly.
The same thing is happening to them that happened to the Yankees a few years ago. They had a confluence of injuries and a bunch of prominent players beginning to decline at the same time. It's shocking how quickly a championship-level team can decline. Look at the Raiders...they went from playing in the Super Bowl in 2002, to having the worst cumulative record in the NFL since then.

True, but the point is that the Raiders played in the Super Bowl in 2002 and in 2003, basically the same team went 4-12. That's not mismanagement. (Although I agree with your basic point.)

I dont think they were ever THAT good. The year they won the SuperBowl was against a very weak NFC opponent. And the only reason they beat the Pats was due to Deon Branch's hold out/trade demand for more money, which left the Pats with Reche Caldwell as their #1 receiver in the playoffs.

Tonight's game was so freaking frustrating. Take away the nonsensical replay reversal on Eli's past-the-line-of-scrimmage penalty and have the Eagles score on 1st and goal at the 2 against the Bears and the Eagles are 7-2. I can't stop thinking about it. The season is slipping away and I truly believe the Eagles are one of the five best teams in the NFL.

Yeah, that's pretty bad. McNabb is a good QB and it's not like they have a Matt Ryan riding the bench because of him. Philadelphia fans might be passionate, but they aren't the brightest.
Detroit is a joke. The Titans could have scored 60 or 70 if Belichick was their head coach (running up the score).
