View Full Version : No "Bond, James Bond" line?!?!?!

It's been a while since I've caught up on movie news. But apparently, in the case of Quantum of Solace, the new James Bond film, Bond will not have his signature line "Bond, James Bond" line, according to an IMDb article. Although the line was absent from some earlier Bond movies (From Russia with Love and Thunderball), the line has since become part of the series of films that is practically now a separate movie genre.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!

I just hope to God that it will have the standard gun-barrel opening scene.

I heard necrophilia isn't heavily featured either.

>=o I am equally outraged they left out such a sexy catch phrase! What next, Indiana Jones not using a whip or wearing a hat?!

Actually, in the fourth movie, he didn't say his signature line "Trust me," that was said by Marion.

That said, I still loved Indiana Jones 4, and thought it was better than Temple of Doom.

Well, I have to say, if I made a movie franchise, I would want to add to the formula, not subtract from it.

In your case, this is a change of addition, not taking things away.

Screw you all, I could care less, the movie is stil going to kick ass.
Daniel Craig FTW.

He turned my best friend.

Whoa whoa SH. We didn't say we were boycotting Mr. Bond, or pirating his movies, or screwing his wifeIMean not going to enjoy it.

It's just a let-down. We come to expect and get a nostalgia over certain things, and that's one of them. If Bond didn't shag a girl, say his catch phrases, shoot the screen, and do an impossible action scene and drive a nice car.. well.. it's just not Bond then, is it? That's what we're saying.

Indiana Jones 4 was good. I saw it in Iraq on Iraqi DVDs the same time it was out in theaters.

Well, apparently, they shot the scene where he says the line, but left it on the cutting floor due to it not fitting well in the screenplay.

Like James Bond ever depended on clever screenwriting.

And I miss the days where the Bond girl's sole purpose was just to stand there in a bikini and look pretty. Why do characters have to be complex all of a sudden?

On the plus note, however, Quantum looks like it will have a more elaborate car chase. That's another thing that irked me about Casino Royale -- Bond movies must have a car chase.

exactly, what are they doing to the bond series these days? they're making it all... sophisticated 'n shit

The ONLY thing that's suppose to be sophisticated is the gadgets in a Bond Movie. Once you start questioning the core values, it all goes to hell. Women bitch about being used by Bond as objects, so they make the character all in love. Fuck that. If Bond used me and threw me to the wind, I'd have a constant thumb's up.

They seem to be trying to humanize the characters. For example, rather than have an über-villain, screenwriters instead give him the "difficult childhood" back story, composed of cliched symbolism (think of The Joker and The Dark Knight).

Another of these humanity things present in movies is that the hero doesn't kill the villain in some interesting way, but rather the villain sacrifices himself. (And besides, a real human being wouldn't likely sacrifice himself.)

And, of course, the hero must have one-liner ready after he kills someone, no matter how lame.

Also, they're ruining the Bond franchise by not having Q or Moneypenny in it.

I mean, I liked Casino Royale very much, but I was hoping that would only be a one-time thing for the franchise.

Maybe we should send death threats to the filmmakers. Showbiz people usually respond pretty well to them.

This would be funny if I didn't think you were serious.

Pretty much any movie is better than The Temple of Doom.

And Quantum of Solace must also have dancing female silhouettes during the opening credits sequence. Did anyone ever notice that the opening credits sequence for Casino Royale didn't have any?

And I want more names like Pussy Galore, Plenty O'Toole, Octopussy, and Holly Goodhead!

And it had also better have gadgets!

From what I've read, Quantum of Solace continues where Casino Royale left off - right? If that's the case, wouldn't it be rather redundant to utter those words again? Better yet, wouldn't any subsequent utterances diminish the aura those words hold - especially in the context of being Ian Flemming's first novel?

Well, technically, Diamonds are Forever continues where On Her Majesty's Secret Service left off, but he says the "Bond, James Bond" line in both of them.

I don't see how such a small line could in any way destroy the movie.

James Bond films need their gimmicks. Otherwise, the franchise will become a Bourne clone. Bond isn't about the writing and characters like Bourne was. It's about creative action sequences and death-defying stunts.

And to top this spoiled sundae with a rotten cherry, the theme song for the new film is a train wreck.

And IMDb trivia states that there will be no kissing between Bond and the lead Bond girl. WTF?

And the Bond girl is hideous.

And finally, the sundae has not been covered with chocolate syrup but rather raw sewage.

The gun-barrel sequence will be a more traditional variant, but it will be at the end of the film right before the closing credits rather than the beginning. What in the hell is EON thinking?

I'm going to burn Pinewood Studios to the ground.

She isn't meant to be a chick. Having just seen it, there's an interest for him, it's just not her. Oh, and they do kiss.

The film isn't as good as Casino Royale. There, I've said it. DC is still great.. the action sequences are visceral and well made. But the plot is all over the place. Still.. it passed a couple of hours. Hoping for better from the next, and one that doesn't rely on Daniel to carry the film.

In this one, a young lady gets covered in oil in just the same way. So that's not gone out of style.
