really?

Why is ego something so many people hold on to?

It is different than confidence right?

Without an ego, we literally wouldn't be conscious.

If they didn't have ego, I bet you'd be complaining they were too wimpy and indecisive.

Actually, yes please.

On the contrary, an ego is an achilies heel. A direct link to the inner most foundation of a person. You can detatch from your ego.

I don't care if people see me as smart, empathetic, trustworthy, reliable, sexy, ugly, mean, stupid, flakey, crazy, sane, etc etc. Because it only exists in perception. It holds no truth.

Once you detach from your ego or subconsious self motivation, you aquire a world view. And you are strong, albite massivly missunderstood, but it doesn't matter.because you no longer rely on others or yourself to shape your knowledge. Everything looks different.

And people are unvieled in light. Each of them looks frail in their own way.

I am not anything special by any means. But sometimes I wonder when everything is so clear why others cannot see what I see.

.....It is in the ego

Ego is the result of id-superego interaction. Superego is how you want to be seen, and id is what you really want.

We call people without superego insane.

According to the implied definition, then no, not everyone has an ego.

I do, though.

That in its own way is an expression of Ego, you have a self sense that you are different from everyone

I'm going to nit pick.

To ask if anyone has an ego is to presume that there's (1) something distinct from the ego called "you" or "one" and (2) that "you" possess the ego in the sense that it's your ego.

We should start by defining ego. If we mean ego in the sense of pride, then the question is boring. If we mean ego in the Freudian sense, then it's too technical for my taste and still boring. If we mean ego in the sense of the thing we refer to when we say "my" or "me" or "I," then the question is much more interesting. If that's the case, it completely doesn't make any sense to say "my ego," since it's the equivalent of saying "the ego's ego."

To summarize:
1. Does the ego exist? Yes.
2. Is the ego possessed by something called "me" or "you" ? The question is absurd, since the ego is the possessor. It's essentially creating a division between you and yourself and suggesting that you can own yourself.
3. Does this post make any sense? Somewhat.
4. ThatGirl doesn't know how to title threads worth shit.

Heh, I think she meant the boring interpretation. Sense of pride.

If we're going by the new agey definition of ego, i.e. overweaning pride: Ego in itself is not evil. It's only the posession of self by the ego that causes problems. Ego can be cheerleader that eggs us on to do that which frightens us. But the ego should be a resource for the self, not self a resource for the ego.

People without any ego will be wimpy and indecisive. People in charge of their ego will be strong and people controlled by the egos will be insufferable and arrogant. jmo.
