After several decent seconds of contemplation, I'll say:

Gervais: ENTP
Merchant: INTP

Partially because I've noticed a similar dynamic in my relations with ENTPs. We speak with equal frequency when "alone together," but in a group I'll stop talking almost entirely, because the ENTP says most which I think needs to be said. The first time I noticed this happen, the ENTP thought I was angry because I was so silent.

Karl does seem INTP... he makes very unique connections to everything. Also doesn't really seem bothered much. I can imagine Gervais is an ENTP. I find them hilarious, always.
