Age and maki made the way my great-grandmother made them. I really need to haul the recipies out and clear up a day for making some.

I don't have encyclopedic knowledge of sushi (unlike everything else ;)), but I usually like it quite a lot.

Spider rolls are definitely my current favorite, followed closely behind crabmeat and cream cheese, and I love anything with shellfish in it, or the all vegetable sushi. I rather enjoy it a lot, but it's a texture thing with sashimi, I just don't really go for it.

Salmon -- straight salmon nigiri, smoked salmon nigiri, salmon roll, spicy salmon roll, salmon skin roll, etc.
Shiitake mushroom roll, wherever I can find it.
Also <3 tuna tataki, with the black pepper around the edges. Yum!

I love the sticky rice, the presentation, and some other things about sushi, but I don't actually like raw fish.
So I really enjoy veggie rolls or rolls with seared tuna. Sometimes I'll even get lucky and find a chicken teriyaki roll.

For some reason, I love the idea of eating raw fish. I would make a good grizzly bear.

I have not tried a whole lot of sushi, I am more partial to dumplings ( yummy shumai <3 ), but I do like cucumber rolls... :P

Spicy tuna, caterpillar roll, dragon roll.

I like the California role and supposedly it's not technically sushi because it lacks the fish eggs or whatever the hell. Other than that I haven't tried one that I really liked (but I haven't tried much). Will try more if given opportunity.

I've rarely had sushi, but I did have smoked eel, and it was definitely the best. Some of those raw fish products feel really weird.

Salmon & yellowtail sashimi.
Like a bear, I just consume the fish. Keep your rice.

Salmon and crab.
There's actually veggie sushi out there? I would've thought that as an oxymoron.

Actually, I think it is technically sushi as long as it has sushi rice.
I typed "role" instead of "roll." :/
And are you sure about that?

I'm not picky about the type, as long as I get a few slabs of octopus in the mix, a bit of eel, oh and the plate ought to be about two feet wide. Gimme wasabi, soy, and about a pint of pickled ginger, and don't talk to me for about an hour. :D

I prefer sashimi to sushi. Like disregard, no need to slap that little nugget of rice to the fishiness.
I eat it all. I like fresh seafood. :)
For rolls, I like 'em kinda crunchy. Like crunchy with snow crab! :holy:

Pretty much all of it, from a plain tuna roll to flying fish roe with raw quail eggs. The only thing I'm not a fan of is octopus. I don't like the texture.
Pretty much, I'll try anything though.

I've never eaten sushi, but I imagine it would be a horrible, life-altering experience. Maybe I should try it.
I imagine it would be a horrible, life-altering experience. As in, you'll be perpetually short of petty cash.
Eel, crispy shrimp, veggie, and crab/cream cheese. I'm not sure if that crab/cream cheese one is an Americanization or what but I still love it. I don't like sashimi at all so you can keep the raw ones.

I like just about all of it except eel, octopus, squid and giant clam. Boston Rolls, East Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, California Roll.....etc. etc.

My favorite is yellowtail. The really red tuna is good too. And spicy tuna. And the smelt roe! Yum. Eel is good but only if they don't smother it in the sauce.
I'm not a big fan of tempura or cream cheese in my rolls. Octopus is too tough and tasteless.
I also smother everything under lots of pickled ginger (Yum.)

That sounds awesome. I wish I could do cool stuff like that.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'm 41, and I've never had sushi. Somehow never been with the sushi crowd, I guess.
I love salmon, though, and I hear a lot of good things about sushi in general, so I really should try it.
Actually, it's kinda cool that I'm 41 and still get to look forward to deflowering my sushi chastity. I'll let y'all know how it goes (because I know you'll be riveted to your monitors until I do).
Hey Lat, whaddya say we go hit a sushi place one of these weekends?

A sushi deflowering party? I'm in!
It'll have to wait a few months, though. I won't be back in Minnesota until December.

I tend to be attracted to people who don't like sea food. either because of the taste, being vegetarian or having the little mermaid as a favorite movie and can't imagine eating seafood because of that. Damn Disney! my friends don't live in reality most of the time, neither do i. I don't see myself ever getting along with someone telling me to pay attention. at what? it's a bus I've seen those before.
I love sushi, anything spicey or with avocado tends to be my favorite. Though I'll probably eat any kind. I had this one that had tempura sweat potato it was so yummy.

I'm not making sushi on my own. too scary.
and do you find your friends divided into two catagories with drinking? the ones who never drink ever, and the ones who get embarassingly drunk. I have maybe 1 or 2 friends who just drink not worrying about getting drunk.

haha I've made sushi on my own, it's slightly challenging but fun..... key is to get your fish at a good market that declares it sushi-grade or calls it "sashimi" (hint: usually an asian market). never make sushi using raw fish that's not labeled as such. raw fish is supposed to stay good in the fridge for up to 3 days, 1 day is my limit.
or, of course, use cooked types of seafood (e.g. crab, shrimp, etc).
Actually, non-traditional sushi's pretty fun to make! (cut-rolls with CA rolls inside with a combination of other sorts.)
My favorite ones to order at Japanese restaurants:
Crunchy rolls
Caterpillar rolls (avacado/unagi on the outside/CA in the inside).
For a more traditional selection, I love Hamachi/Toro (it just melts in your mouth). So good!
If interested, for free-lessons, check out Youtube. Key thing is to keep the knife clean/wet when cutting (always wet it first). For recipes, google it (I dislike foodNetworks version of how to make the rice- it's too salty). Enjoy!

What he said. Most of the time I'm eating sushi, I haven't a clue what I'm eating, I just know that it tastes good. Who needs the details hey? :newwink:

Hmmmm. . . eel, spicy yellowtail, oh toro tuna, salmon, mackerel. . . I can actually do octopus in small doses. The fish roe stuff was not my bag, though.
