so I was bored and I had a penny, and decided to see if it would fit in my nose yes I know. IDIOT!! anyways it seems it does fit and my nose sorta swallowed it and I don't want to go to the doctor, cuz that's kinda embarassing, so do you think if I induce a sneeze it will come out? and if not is it really that dangerous that it stays up their?
nevermind I just swallowed it. and I didn't choke, so I figure since when I was three I liked swallowing quarters and my parents knew but didn't really take me to the doctor I'm putting this in that catagory, as I'm going to fine.

I think you better call a doctor. Right now.
Don't worry, they see it all...and worse.

THAHAHAHAHAHAh oh my goodness me, for shaem.
I don't think you're in immediate danger, but please do get it removed. It'll probably take them three minutes, and you'll be out $100.

If you accidentally swallow it, like if it works it was in your sleep or something... it's gonna be a worse proceedure:

It's really not much of a problem.
You won't be able to digest it. Your stomach acid will strip away some of the outer metallic shell. It won't split into pieces, if that's your primary concern. It should remain in its approximate state throughout its voyage.
Passing it won't be much of a problem. Your sphincter is much more flexible than your nasal cavity. If you didn't experience any pain during the initial swallowing, you shouldn't have any real discomfort to worry about.
Internal bleeding probably won't be an issue.
If it is, you'll know pretty quickly.

I would probably let it ride, but I'm kind of dangerous like that. Might take heart's advice if you want to play it safe.

+1 to Jack Flak.
If you're overly concerned, you can request an X-Ray of your gastrointestinal tract.

Oh no I'm not worried. I was more worried when it was stuck in my nose, I was like what if it got lodged into my brain?

Chronic ingestion of a penny can cause zinc posioning according to what I've read. I'd call a doctor just to be sure. I wouldn't assume anything.
one time is hardly chronic

Unless it was fired out of a gun, I wouldn't worry too much about it penetrating your brain.
You have more chance of it Ping-Ponging in your lungs than wedging in your brain. :)

I skimmed it. and now I'm actually going to read it.
read it understood it, but still don't think it's a problem. if I die, but I'm not going to. so that's not an issue

Dude, I think you need to get a hobby. That doesn't involve coins. Or putting things in holes. Wow that sounds dirty. But I stand by it!

Okay, so they are saying here not so bad in adults, just maybe get copper inbalance if it isn't excreeted:
Coin Ingestion, an Unexpected Finding at Colonoscopy: Case Report
from Medscape General Medicine [TM]

Log In Problems (http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/448849)
"...A review of 10 years of experience with ingested foreign bodies, in 101 patients of all ages (9 months to 87 years), revealed that 46% had spontaneous passage of the foreign body. Endoscopic removal of retained foreign body was performed in 43%, and an operation was required in 12%. If the foreign body reached the stomach, 80% of these subsequently passed unimpeded, and 20% required either endoscopic or surgical removal. The most common foreign bodies were coins (15%) or bones (15%). In the group requiring surgery, 7% had a perforation, though none of these occurred in coin ingestion.[2]
From a literature review, it seems ingested coins very rarely cause symptoms or complications in adults. Pyloric obstruction due to an ingested coin has been reported in an adult[6] and was successfully treated by endoscopic removal. Zinc-induced copper deficiency has also been reported in patients who ingest multiple coins, which are usually retained in the stomach.[7,8] Once beyond the stomach, complications of foreign body ingestion seem dependent on the size and nature of the foreign body, but complications from coins in the lower gastrointestinal tract are very rare. Perforation of a Meckel's diverticulum, by coin ingestion, has been reported in a 25-year-old woman, who underwent subsequent excision of the diverticulum and removal of the coin. Although colonic perforation has been reported with chicken bone ingestion,[9] there are no reports of similar occurrences with colonic coins..."

Hey, Purple I am sorry for the posts I made here if they caused any undue worry, I just always remember hearing that pennies were different from other coins and could cause stomach problems, apparently I was reading that more seriously than I should have, in which case I am sorry. I know pennies in particular are really bad news for dogs to swallow, but then maybe becauase their systems are way different.
