View Full Version : Most likely type to experiment with drugs

This topic may be a little bit off color, but I suppose the admins will remove it if that is the case.
Well, I think the Ne types would be curious and may also able to see that the "accepted values" of others need not apply to them.
That having been said, I "plead the fifth."
Also, I believe that the INTP type would indulge because a logical thinker who doesnt have Ni to obscure their judgement would probably turn a corner when they realize that alcohol causes more disease and death in a year than lsd, psilocybin and marijuana ever have or will.
What do you think?

ESxP are prone to the "anything anytime" mindset. I also think INTP are fairly logical about things.

INTJs are not likely to experiment. They're more likely to outright abuse.
Experimentation is probably more like an ISP thing.

OK, why the hell is this in the NF thread group, huh?! You think we're all drugies?! I'm offended!!!

I wanted to try LSD or shrooms after the music stopped working. There's a few msn chatlogs on my old computer that denote eccentric desperation.
I've gotten used to my lull now, and tend to want to take the long, difficult route into experiences.

I was a little confused for a moment.

an INTP that I know quite well tells me she kinda likes the fun mind altering here and there. ...just being able to chill and slow the brain cells down a bit... not buying into the BS of Reefer Madness... Actually, I've known a few NTP's and NTJ's that have been cool with it. Even an NFP or two.... Maybe it's an N thing?

Again. Difference between 'experimentation' and 'abuse.' INJ types have very addictive personalities.

Sometimes I'd drink while doing homework. Surprisingly I'd do better after a few than I would sober...

That's why I avoid drugs, completely.
Also my family has a history of alcoholism on both sides so that combined with being an INTJ I figure would end up screwing me over.

Most likely to experiment: ESxP
Most likely to use: xNTP
Most likely to abuse: xNTJ
Most likely to narc: ESTJ
And I'm not counting alcohol, that would change everything.

This doesn't apply to the two ESTJs that I am friends with but I can totally see how that could be the case, and that's just hilarious!:D

depends on what it is and what's my motivation. I'm not so much like wooooo I want to go do drugs *hunts for a dealer* but if I'm with friends and someone goes we're getting weed/shrooms do you want some? Hell Yeah!
oh shit I forgot to answer the question. I think any type is a capable of experimenting with drugs but I do think most like be an SP or NP I don't know how much f or t has to do with it. though I think STP or NTP more likely.

what about being addicted to caffeine/energy drinks and pharmaceuticals so called "nootropics" (they mess with brain chemicals in a way that is said to make you smarter/remember more/or focus better). I am obsessed with having more brain energy/physical energy... thank god I have never and will never try amphetamines or coke (i can only assume i would probably love it). (although ive never used steriods, I would bet that any type correlation between the drugs i mentioned and steriods would hold true).
any MBTI type correlation between the use/abuse of drugs that assist in practical ways?

ESxP, no doubt.. with ENxP's not far behind.
I'm not sure if peer pressure or just curiosity is what causes them to try drugs more often.

Assuming someone is stupid enough to give drugs to an ENTP in the first place...

To be serious here.
Ne dominant types would be more likely than others to experiment to indulge their curiosity. Novelty is their favorit thing on earthy by far. Luckily, they are also the type that is least likely to be stuck on it forever and ever because the stupid sons of a bitch couldn't finish anything eve if their effing lives depended on it.
Hell I picked up smoking for a year and quit just like that because I got bored with it.

You would more than likely stay away from speedy drugs because the inevitable crash would make you hate yourself soo much that you would never do it again after 5 or 6 of them.

ive been addicted to caffeine and energy drinks for nearly 2.5 years .... and yes i have tried to quit. i however could be ddicted to weed or alcohol for the very reasons you sited for why i wouldn't like speed related drugs. For some reason, caffeine and other mental energy enhancers just do it for me, it is literally like an addiction to a power trip. I just get off to having more energy to do more things....with less sleep.

If you think caffeine is addicting I suggest you stay as far away from opiates as possible.

Never been addicted to coffee, drink it in random periods. Really not the type to get addicted to substances for some reason...I've never gotten addicted to anything except my computer and my i-pod o.O, honestly subtances just...don't get to me I guess. It's funny because I really "feel" them strongly when I do drink coffee and whatnot but I work like nothing happened when the effects wear off and I don't even feel an urge to do it again.

I'm curious, but I think if, ever, perhaps in the future that I were to ever, perhaps try a drug, it would maybe, perhaps, be marijuana..hypothetically of course..but I don't know if I'd need any other drugs besides that..or at all..

well actually i DID have to take opiates for pain a few years ago...i never abused them in dosage per say, but i ended up taking them a lot longer than i should have...
luckily i can say that ive never done anything beyond weed in a purely recreational sense

I tried snorting coke once, the crushed ice kept getting stuck in my nose and all that damn carbonation kept burning my nostrils. Keep that damn brown liquid away from me . . .
Oh and why is this in an NF specific forum? Forgive a Newb!

Who starts with speed or ecstasy? It all starts with smoking pot with a friend or at a party, then you smoke with a group of friends, then you smoke alone. All drugs follow the same pattern, and once you've tried pot, the odds of you trying heavy drugs are through the roof when compared to someone who hadn't smoked pot.
Sure, there are plenty of people who only smoke weed (and function normally, at that), but when you get somebody else to smoke it you don't know what kind of addict they have the potential to become.

I'm an ENFP and have been addicted to opiates for two years now. Curiously, what I found is that, even though I commonly can't finish anything I start and have a real problem with perseverance, I seem to have no problem with continuing using every day, even though it has become a routine and there's nothing I supposedly hate more. I guess addiction doesn't take stock of MBTI types. :) Sure, it's easier for us Ne types to become addicted, since we're so hooked from the beginning on novelty and sensationalism. But I guess a J would break a habit faster than I would, because we Ps are so wired to seek instant gratification and we can't ever behave rationally -- that is, sacrifice a smaller gratification now for the sake of a bigger satisfaction later.

Maybe this is just my observation, but I'm convinced INFPs struggle the most with addiction and depression issues. Perhaps it comes from being very sensitive and being loners, as well as the combination of introverted feeling and extroverted intuition. Three close friends of mine who are all INFPs have struggled with substance abuse issues (ranging from marijuana to cocaine to heroin), and all three to me seem to have a history of depression as well. All three had serious issues with marijuana (sometimes in combination with other things). I support the legalization of marijuana and I think it is very possible to use marijuana without becoming addicted, but these three were the "wake-and-bake" type who had to smoke up before leaving their room in the morning and would smoke before going to class or to work. Very sad, and I often am unsure what to do as I see a friend descending into this mess. Luckily one girl finally went to AA and is about to celebrate six months of sobriety, but another friend (the apartmentmate of my fiance and I, actually) smokes himself just about catatonic every day and it's hard to know what to do to help. We've tried heart-to-hearts with him but he gets very defensive. I guess a person has to be ready to change. I've also noticed that these three all tend toward unhealthy, emotionally abusive relationships.
Anyway, anyone else noticed substance abuse/depression issues with INFPs?
