His Genes made him do it?

Study Links Men's DNA to Marital Conflict

A new study out of Sweden claims there is a direct link between a man's genes and his ability to remain faithful in marriage.

Researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm said men with a particular variant of gene called an allele – present in two of every five men – are at twice the risk of marital dysfunction and divorce. The study also showed women married to men with the allele scored lower on relationship satisfaction than those who are married to men without the gene.

"This is an interesting scientific finding, but it doesn't justify cheating on a spouse," Jenny Tyree, associate marriage analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said. "There's nothing impressive about a husband or wife who would use their DNA to cop out on their marriage commitment."

Thoughts please?

I don't know what you mean do you think it's true or just scientific hogwash?

ETA: I found it on a women's forum and I think they are still over there acting like they found gold!

Might be helpful making life better for both long-term and short-term people. *shrug*

That's what I thought. I'm still waiting to find out if they found it in women too. I think there is a good chance it might be. It might give a whole new meaning to the phrase
Have you been tested?

Either way, you were blessed with a brain that can make choices and the rest of you will have to follow. :)

Yes, I know, and I am not a cheater. I just am interested in genetics and the Human Genome, and it would be very interesting to find out.

The first time I heard about this was by reading an article on how all other news outlets are taking this finding way too far in its implications.

That's sorta like Nancy Wexler/Huntington's.

Ugh. I don't know if I'd want to know.

But providing information to the researchers helps to fight the genes that cause awful diseases. I'd rather know something was wrong, so I can plan around that.

LOL. There was also a study some years back that said women who like beer are more likely to cheat.

Well duh. It is beneficial (in terms of evolutionary fitness) to have a gene that gives you the desire to mate with multiple partners, however our society looks down upon it because of the sense of 'immorality' about it.

I'm sure there is a link between a lot of what we do and genes. We're made of them, and so I would assume the way we think and act on a scientific level it'd not be surprising to see there are some genes that make humans lean more toward these sort of acts.. But we're also born with intelligence, character, and I also believe that the sky's the limit when it comes to putting our minds toward anything. I don't think we were born monogamous, I think it's something humankind has chosen for itself. Having the power to make decisions and choices is one of the greatest gifts mankind has been blessed with.

That and the young of men who stick around have better odds.

It's no excuse. Everyone can choose to be honest about their feelings within the relationship, cheating doesn't come out of know where, it's a reaction to a lack of satisfaction. Knowledge of the gene changes nothing in actuality.

If one reads carefully, they haven't proven anything in humans and they admit this.

I am curious as to how many people giving opinions on this topic online (all over the web) read further than the headline?

I think that proof there is an assumption gene that's probably causing more discord in human society than anything else!
