View Full Version : Why do people Pretend to be INTJ's?

Through my travels, experiences and what not, I have seen many a man and woman putting off the Image of an INTJ. I do not know if it is because Intj’s are “cool” or “badass” or because society demands people to be colder nowadays…I was wondering whether or not I was the only who has pondered this.

I haven't noticed, unless you mean on forums.

:D

I joke, I jest.

Thats really strange, during high-school, it was very obvious to me...guess I looked to deep. (and also, I have noticed it on the internet as well.)

Actually, I see your point. Why the hell would anybody actually choose to be an INTJ?

You know, I really appreciate INTJ's, but I noticed, especially with one close friend of mine, that it seems like a personality that's a bit of a torture internally. At least, I know how much he struggles sometimes, having to be polite when he doesn't want to be, social niceties and all. He really needs for people to make sense as much as possible.

It confuses me as well..it seems to be most rampant amongst the otaku..I see it as a curse, more or less....but oddly enough I would not trade it for the world.

I didnt understand that. Do you mean people that are not iNTj's behaving like one. Or people telling they are one, though they are not ?

A bit of both actually.

i think DG means that people try to look isolated and 'badass' just to increase their social status. these people are not introverts at all, but extroverts looking for approval. people like the thrill i guess and so they're attracted to them. people earn for this attraction so they imitate them.

INTJ's aren't cool or badass, they're dweebs. Quite the opposite.

Maybe there are some nerd posers out there, people putting off then nerd image but without having the smarts and hobbies nerds typically have so they can fit into the subculture.

Strange, usually when I'm acting cold it's for a reason. One example would be trying to clear my head of emotive interference so I can do a direct judgment between the information I have and the situation at hand. I typically need to find a corner to cry in later after having to make those kinds of decisions though.

I've definitely burned a few bridges when I was too young/immature/exhausted to be patient and polite to social norms standards a time or two. It really sucks, esp. if you're also the sexual variant enneagram and constantly want to go deeper than most people, to the point where you make them uncomfortable.

It's not so much that people pretend to be like INTJs. It's just that people exuding a "don't talk to me" attitude is similar to the natural state of an INTJ when they are by themselves around people. I could say that people who are outgoing at a party are trying to be ESFPs but it would simply be making a big leap out of a little observation.

It's a paradoxical type. I would say that your reason is one of many that it's a torture internally.

I wouldn't say all otakus desire to be INTJ. Some of them can be so annoying and loud and and very extroverted. I'm thinking of all the debauchery that goes on at those conventions...

INTJ = type with highest social status among dweebs = greatest arrogance

I agree people fudge the answers...its pretty obvious even with my short time here at MBTIC. Its no picnic being an INTJ unless you enjoy being exhausted without moving. I honestly would rather not be one...its more of a curse than a blessing. Its nice to be able to "cruise control" through what most people view as obstacles....until you find yourself at the foot of a mountain. Thats when the "fun" begins....

I just read the initial post again......INTJ impostors in a social setting. Has more to do with "generation narcissism" and the lovely internet IMO. They may appear INTJ's until a problem needs to be solved....or you talk critically with them.

I've noticed it... I think the INTJ archetype is appealing to young Introverted people who feel like they know a lot more than their elders. That's why so many people who are on MBTI forums get into logic and just start acting like they're proponents of intelligence and truth, get sucked into the New Age stuff.

So that means, the eNTp title would be appropiate for young extroverted boys who wants to get laied ?

Not all INTJ's are "cold" or "badass". In fact a lot aren't. We are just eccentric to our own planning. I think you and these folks you are meeting are not INTJ's nor understand what one is.

INTJs tend to be very private types and therefore tend to hate people because they are nosy.

If you are referring to this whole world domination thing, then I can assure you that that whole act is incredibly boring. In reality, INTJs are likely too shy to assert themselves in such a way.

Also, INTJs often act in a macho way to compensate for their underdeveloped Se, which compels one to act on physical impulses. Or they may obsess over a the thoughts and fantasies of doing something rather than actually doing, also Ni compensating for the limited access of Se.

I don't know that there is much "pretending" to be an INTJ, I'm inclined to think being cold and distant assholes is just the way we are. And who says there's anything wrong with that?

Why do people assume that INTJs are cold and badass? I blame projection. All that quiet and privacy lets people imagine as they please.

These may sound like coldness and badassery, but really these are just the dressings and have little to do with the two traits.

They could just as easily apply to an übernerd or even someone like Holden Caufield.

Holden Caufield is not a badass. People who think he's a badass obviously did not understand the book at all.

I guess it makes sense from the descriptions, that by going solely by those, it would sound like they're pretty badass, but when one sees how these traits fit into an actual person rather than just an image (such as, badassery), they don't really look badass at all.

In my opinion, INTJ's appear stand-offish a lot (particularly younger ones) for the same reason that many counter cultures appear/act the way that they do. They have an inherent fear of whatever they can't prepare for, so they act preemptively by trying to ward off any threat. It's easier to appear intimidating than to try to win over everyone socially. See Enneagram Type 5. It's when they finally realize that eventhough it doesn't feel like it, they are more prepared than 95% of the population...so they begin to act on instinct without preparation and they begin to ascend to Type 8 traits and become more comfortable with themselves and their self expression.

Personaly, I see that most people think Intj's are badass...I went to a private school, that was packed with them (intj's), and people in the outside community thought all of us were cool. We gave short answers, we had dry humor, we made a lot of people look like fools...In a society where "Mtv kids" are all too common...people are starting to give Intj's a little credit.
