I'm thinking of getting a Katana and Japanese characters on each side in black and bordered in dark red (still thinking of what I want written). I won't be getting this soon. No money available and I want to think on it more. I'm trying to decide where I'd put it. Considerations - Chest, upper back, leg.

Don't do it!

^anti tattoo?

It wouldn't be real big and I would get it somewhere that can be covered by normal clothes. I said the leg was a consideration, but hardly.

Tattoos used to be a cool rebel thing to do, but now everybody and their mom has one. The cool rebel thing now is to NOT have one. Just like not having a cell phone, which unfortunately I finally caved on, but at least I still don't have any tattoos!

I'm not thinking of rebel/non-rebel. That mentality is irrelevant to me.

You personally don't like tattoos... so your advice is "don't get one!" - Gotcha. Will keep that in consideration.

*Files Jeffster's advice into the back of the file* (:D)

Gah. Go ahead, be a conformist then! Don't say I never tried to help you, though. ;)

I have a tattoo on my left wrist of the infinity symbol.

It is small, but looks exactly like this:

Have you seen any 3D tattoos? They're crazy looking.

I think getting the katana tattoo on the inside or medial portion of your bicep would be cool.

If that guy came in asking me to draw that on his skin I'd throw him out.

I don't want his business... he'll give my tattoo shop a bad reputation.

Pfft Jeffster. A well placed and designed tat is still hot :tongue10:

Personally I don’t love tats on legs but upper back is good for guys and always easy to cover up when needed. Do the characters you’re gonna get have meaning for you?

Hey CC I have one on my left wrist too :nice:

The kewlest part was the guy was an actual scientist, so he had the geek cred to wear such a geekly tattoo. And he was SUPER CUTE. :wubbie:

Chinese is what people always get. Japanese would actually be unique - especially if it were to include hiragana or katakana.

I'd love to find out someone from China or Japan or wherever has opened a tattoo shop in the US and is giving out tattoos that say such things as "I am a total tool" "No one in my family is from any Asian country" "I insulted my Chinese tattoo artist" "When this trend is over I'll have it turned into a teepee" and so on.

Hmm, in-between the lines “not seen”?

Maybe I’m cynical but I think they already do :D

I see plenty of Japanese character tatts in this part of the world.

If you get a Japanese character get one that says "Anchor" or "Mom".

My tattoo suggestion: an unfinished game of noughts and crosses.

A guy I work with has that exact tattoo and on his wrist. Not sure which wrist. He's on leave so I couldn't check on that today.

Yeah, English is so much more obscure. I should just go with that...

I happen to like old Japanese art/culture. It's appealing to me and the tattoo idea is actually pretty neat (at least in my opinion). I was turned off with the whole Asian lettering/characters thing for a while, but this design (which I kind of stole ) is good to go.

Mine thus far.

Top left is on my left forearm, inspired by a Chili Peppers tune (a heart with sperm swimming around it).

Bottom left is on my left bicep, for Libra.

Kanji on right forearm is "To give love and song"

All gotten in 93-95

I need more.

Ohh, I especially love the heart surrounded by semen!!!

Go figure, :P

EDIT: Do you the act of think getting tattoos is addicting? I only one and I don't think I will get another, though I must say, the process of getting one is quite relaxing! :)

lol I've heard tales about that, but on shirts etc. That would be unfortunate in tattoo form. What I find even more amusing is the weird english people use in Japan. There will be store signs that say something like, "Here are yes". Not exactly that, it's really funny though.

I have a small butterfly on my inner right thigh. It was kind of embarrassing to get due to location. I always thought the back was the nicest place for tattoos on guys.

Yeah the current one is kind of grainy and the transparency doesn't work, but I like the motion, and can't be bothered to fix it.
