Well, if I take myself as an example then I know that it is not such an existential necessity...I do think that we need a certain minimal amount of emotional connection, but it is established differently (in our heads as opposed to in interaction? Fi-Fe?) and when it is established,we do not need it to be re-established all the time, so we are freer within the bond. My INFJ friend on the other hand is miserable without/desperate for such intense emotional bonds and as a result "tugs" at people so to speak and continues to tug when the bond has been established.
